The Smíchov City project represents the transformation of the Smíchov North Station brownfield into a new urban district. It will offer almost 400,000 m2 of residential, administrative, commercial and public space. Following our successful participation in an international competition, we were invited to design three residential sections of one of the new city blocks. Smíchov for us are conservative apartment buildings with a small number of flats per floor, lively pavilions or generously lit functionalist houses set back from the street line. One thing is characteristic for all the houses - they have attics into which spacious atypical flats are built.
We design solid but generously lit houses up to the height of the main cornice and then place light or playful stepped extensions above it. The material design of the facades and entrances reflects the playfulness of the public spaces in which the houses are located. In the main boulevard, we use glass tiles in the parterre with reference to the quality architecture of the First Republic. For the side streets we use industrial painted sheet metal or traditional noble plaster. On the residential floors we work with solid wood motifs, matt glass, at the same time interpreted stone details of window lining and locksmith details of balconies or loggias. The construction is currently in progress.
